AKC's DNA Profile Program for Stud Dogs/Semen Freeze

DNA Profiling is required for stud dogs whose semen is collected for:

  1. Frozen or fresh extended use

  2. Frequently Used Sires, effective for litters whelped on or after July 1, 2000

  3. Imported breeding stock registered on or after March 1, 2006.

If the semen was collected after October 1, 1998 an AKC DNA profile is required. If the dog is deceased, a DNA profile can be obtained from the frozen semen. Contact the DNA Department at 919-816-3508 or dna@akc.org to request the forms and information on how to obtain DNA from frozen semen.

Breed Specific Health Testing

We encourage all breeders to fulfill the breed specific health testing before starting reproductive services, and without the appropriate health testing we may not be able to breed your dog. For more information on what health testing may be required for your breed, click on your breed's designated American Kennel Club group below. If you are unsure of your dog's designated group you can find general information through the AKC's webiste here. Medical testing can be completed through Embark and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. If you have specific questions about health testing that AVRS advises for your specific breed, please feel free to contact us for an appointment.
